A Peek Into Scaredy Ghost's World
The Beginning
I've spent plenty of time drawing Scaredy Ghost, but this time I thought it would be fun to bring a little piece of his world to life!
Funny enough, this whole project started with a hollow book I found in the dollar section at Target. I had absolutely no idea what I was going to do with it, but I knew I wanted to make something.
With Halloween approaching, I figured it was the perfect excuse to make a little seasonal decor for my home. I'm pretty minimal when it comes to decorating for the holidays, so something small and subtle felt just right. Somewhere along the way, that little Halloween decoration turned into Scaredy Ghost's very own living room.
Bringing the Idea to Life
I started by using AI to mock up the little world I was imagining. It helped me visualize how I could turn a shallow book into a cozy room, mixing printed elements with miniature furniture and accessories.
The first step was wallpaper! I found a pattern I loved, printed it out, and started lining the inside of the book. Unfortunately, I hadn't printed quite enough to cover the entire space.
Rather than start over, I decided to add dark wood paneling along the bottom of the walls, which ended up being one of my favorite design decisions. I printed matching hardwood floors, too, and suddenly it was starting to look like a real little room.

The Tiny Details
Next came a trip to the art store to see what miniature treasures I could find.
I picked up a few tiny books, plants, a coffee cup, and some small wooden blocks that would eventually become floating bookshelves and a coffee table. From there, I started experimenting with layouts, painting pieces, and figuring things out as I went.
My absolute favorite part of the project was creating the miniature artwork.
I found a few tiny frames that originally had sailing-themed pictures inside, but I wanted them to feel like something you'd actually find hanging in Scaredy Ghost's home.
So I painted over them!
One became a little ghost family portrait, another a black cat, and suddenly the room felt a lot more personal. Some of the details were so tiny that I had to use an extra-fine-tip pen to finish them. I definitely found myself wishing I had a magnifying glass!
Ghosts’ Little World!
Slowly but surely, everything came together.
The furniture found its place, the shelves filled up, and Scaredy Ghost finally had somewhere to sit with a good book and a cup of coffee.
What started as a random Target find became one of my favorite little creative experiments. There was no grand plan, just a lot of curiosity, trial and error, and the fun of seeing an idea take shape.
And now Scaredy Ghost has a cozy little world outside of my illustrations. I couldn't be happier with how it turned out!
